Nippon Steel moves to dismiss US consumers' challenge to US Steel merger

( March 20, 2025, 16:29 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Nippon Steel told a federal court that it should dismiss a private challenge to its acquisition of US Steel. The challenge is another suit "in a long line of baseless lawsuits filed by Plaintiffs and their lawyers to attempt to extract fees by threatening to delay a merger of public companies that they have no standing to challenge in the first place," Nippon Steel said in its motion to dismiss filed in the Northern District of California. The plaintiffs assert generalized, speculative grievances that are not sufficient to establish Article III standing, fail to allege antitrust injury or that they are proper antitrust enforcers, and fail to allege specific allegations regarding the relevant market or the merger's purported anticompetitive effects, the filing said.See attached file....
