EU’s Guersent says merger analysis of innovation clearer than investment

But he said it was much less clear how "investment" benefits could be taken on-board. "To my knowledge, there are no theoretical works that explain how you would balance it out," said Olivier Guersent, who is set to retire from the European Commission later this year. EU merger investigators find it easier to grasp the likelihood that a merger will lead to great innovation than claims that a tie-up will generate more investment, according to the EU’s top competition official. ...
