Rewe to pay EUR70 million fine for unit's gun-jumping, Austrian court says

( February 4, 2025, 15:36 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Rewe will have to pay the highest antitrust fine ever imposed in Austria, after the nation's Supreme Court increased a penalty from 1.5 million to 70 million euros, the court said today. The fine is for a prohibited implementation of a merger. When a 2018 lease agreement came into force, Rewe unit Merkur Warenhandels AG, now Billa Plus, took over sales areas at a shopping center in the city of Wels, without notifying the deal.
