Australia's parliament adopts mandatory, suspensory merger regime

In a late night sitting of Australia’s parliament, the Treasury Laws Amendment (Mergers and Acquisitions) Bill 2024 was approved without amendments by upper house senators. In a statement, Treasurer Jim Chalmers and Assistant Treasurer Andrew Leigh described the bill as the biggest change to Australia’s merger settings in half a century.
