Copying for AI not fair use, Third Circuit affirms in Westlaw case against Ross
( September 29, 2026, 17:52 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: A panel of the US Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit has affirmed a summary judgment order favoring Thomson Reuters in its infringement case against Ross Intelligence over copyrights associated with the Westlaw database. The affirmation came without an accompanying opinion, which has been filed temporarily under seal. US Circuit Judge Stephanos Bibas, sitting by designation in the District of Delaware, found in February 2025 that copying of protected works during algorithmic training was not fair use under Section 107 of the Copyright Act.See file attached. ...
