Young UK adults spark rebound in counterfeit purchases, UKIPO study shows

By Melissa Ritti ( September 18, 2026, 14:59 GMT | Insight) -- In a sharp increase over 2023, nearly half of UK young adults surveyed on behalf of the UK Intellectual Property Office say they have knowingly purchased counterfeit products, with sporting goods and toys among the most sought-after fakes. Across all age groups, the UKIPO's 2025 survey showed 26 percent of UK adults reported making counterfeit purchases, up from 24 percent in 2023.Almost half 18- to 24-year-olds in the UK said they had knowingly bought fake goods in 2025, a significant jump from about a third in 2023 although only slightly higher than levels recorded in previous years, a survey for the UK Intellectual Property Office shows. ...
