UK trademark association's new head calls for action on applications backlog
By Douglas Clarke-Williams ( May 7, 2026, 16:03 GMT | Comment) -- The new president of the body representing UK trademark lawyers has said that action is desperately needed to address the country’s persistent backlog of trademark applications, calling for an overhaul of the service similar to that recently carried out for the UK patents system.Daniel Hardman-Smart took over as president of the Chartered Institute of Trademark Attorneys, or CITMA, at the end of April, looking ahead to a long-awaited revitalization of the UK Intellectual Property Office’s system for filing and searching trademarks — a change that he says can’t come quickly enough....
