South Korea creates ultra-fast IP review program for AI, biotech startups

( February 23, 2026, 06:05 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: South Korea’s Ministry of Intellectual Property on Monday created an ultra-fast-track review program for intellectual property applications submitted by startup companies in the fields of artificial intelligence and advanced biotechnology. Under the program, up to 2,000 ultra-fast examinations will be provided per year in each of the two technology fields. The ministry expects the new program to significantly shorten the examination waiting period for AI and biotech startup applications, helping startups secure rights more quickly and bolstering the startup boom. Applicants will now be able to receive a first examination result within one month under the ultra-fast track or within two months under the expedited track, compared with an average of 14.7 months for ordinary examinations, the ministry added.Statement is attached (in Korean)....
