Anthropic says music publishers are pursuing 'Bartz II' in discovery dispute

( October 1, 2025, 23:58 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex summary: Music publishers including Concord Music Group are trying to turn their case against Anthropic into a "Bartz II" focused on "so-called 'pirate libraries,'" the AI company told a federal court in California, arguing that its raw and extracted text from shadow libraries LibGen and PiLiMi should remain designated for attorneys' eyes only. "Bartz II" references a preliminarily-approved $1.5 billion settlement between Anthropic and book authors over claims that the company trained its Claude chatbot on pirated books. Concord countered in its own submission that Anthropic cannot use a confidentiality designation for "illegal pirated copies of copyrighted works owned by others."See attached file....
