Sioen infringes Texport’s patent for protective fabric, UPC rules

( July 31, 2025, 14:16 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Textiles company Sioen infringes Texport’s patent EP 2,186,428 B2 for protective garments — especially firefighting gear — the Nordic-Baltic Regional Division of the Unified Patent Court ruled today. The court found an infringement of the first and tenth claim of the patent, ordering Sioen to cease and desist, and prohibiting it from using fabric structures with these characteristics to make protective clothing. Additionally, Sioen must, within four weeks, recall the contested products in 16 EU countries, and destroy remaining products including those returned as well as promotional materials. Sioen faces a penalty payment of up to 10,000 euros for each violation of the order, and must also pay 50,000 euros interim damages and further 50,000 euros as an interim award of legal costs.The decision is attached. ...
