EU lawmaker sues European Commission over AI liability, patents bills withdrawal

( July 22, 2025, 10:18 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Tiemo Wölken, a center-left European lawmaker, said he is suing the European Commission for a lack of transparency regarding its decision to withdraw the legislative proposals for the AI Liability Directive and the Regulation on Standard Essential Patents. In a statement, the Socialists and Democrats member of the European Parliament said he was taking legal action to bring clarity and obtain the documents concerned after the legislation was withdrawn following a meeting between commission President Ursula von der Leyen and US Vice President JD Vance.Full statement follows....
