Sumitomo Chemical's trademark rights upheld by Indian Court

By Freny Patel ( July 7, 2025, 00:06 GMT | Insight) -- Sumitomo Chemical Company has emerged victorious in a trademark dispute after the Delhi High Court dismissed a suit filed by Coromandel Indag Products India Ltd., citing lack of legal standing. The court ruled that Coromandel Indag had no enforceable rights over the "PADAN" trademark, which it claimed had been infringed. Instead, the court found that the trademark rights were held by Coromandel Agriscience, a separate legal entity currently undergoing insolvency proceedings. As CAPL was not a party to the case and only its resolution professional could bring such a suit, the court concluded that Coromandel Indag had no authority to initiate the legal action, effectively rendering the suit untenable.Sumitomo Chemical Company has won a legal battle after an Indian court dismissed a trademark suit filed by Coromandel Indag Products India for want of legal standing....
