Maxell wins $112 million jury verdict in US patent dispute with Samsung

By Nick Robertson ( May 29, 2025, 15:33 GMT | Insight) -- An Eastern District of Texas jury awarded Maxell $112 million yesterday in connection with Samsung’s infringement of three smartphone technology patents. The verdict is the first in a pair of patent lawsuits between the companies stemming from the expiration of a 2011 patent licensing agreement between Samsung and Maxell subsidiary Hitachi. An investigation is also pending at the US International Trade Commission between the Japanese and Korean consumer electronics giants, in addition to litigation in Europe and Japan.Japan-based Maxell prevailed after a seven-day patent infringement trial in the Eastern District of Texas against Korean tech giant Samsung, being awarded $11.7 million in a jury verdict yesterday....
