EU patent resolution center to launch by start of next year, UPC leaders say

By Inbar Preiss ( May 14, 2025, 16:20 GMT | Insight) -- The Unified Patent Court’s patent mediation and arbitration center is expected to open by early next year, offering a forum for resolving patent and SEP-related disputes through alternative dispute resolution. Top judge Klaus Grabinski and PMAC director Aleš Zalar said the center will soon launch a public consultation on its draft mediation and arbitration rules this month, which include a dedicated chapter on SEPs and fair, reasonable and non-discriminatory terms.  The center’s rollout comes amid uncertainty over the EU’s draft SEP regulation.The Unified Patent Court’s patent and arbitration center “is on the horizon” and will open its doors to disputing parties by the end of this year or early next year, said Klaus Grabinski, president of the Court of Appeal and chairperson of the Unified Patent Court presidium....
