Efficient Power Conversion, in defense of USITC exclusion order, seeks review of IPR

By Melissa Ritti ( April 18, 2025, 15:52 GMT | Insight) -- Efficient Power Conversion Corp., or EPC, indicated in a notice yesterday with the Patent Trial and Appeal Board it intends to seek director review of an inter partes review, or IPR, of its gallium nitride transistor patent. The California-based semiconductor company said although it “requires a small amount of additional time” to prepare that request, a second look is warranted where the PTAB and US International Trade Commission “reached different, irreconcilable conclusions about the same patent claims.” The same day, EPC rival Innoscience (Zhuhai) Technology Co. and its US affiliate lodged their own request for Director Review, accusing the PTAB of wrongly declaring various substitute patent claims valid.New rules for securing a discretionary denial of inter partes review could soon be put to the test....
