HBO wins trademark battle over ‘Game of Döner’ citing unfair advantage

The Opposition Division evaluated the similarity between the marks, the reputation of HBO’s brand, and the likelihood of consumers associating the two.The European Union Intellectual Property Office has ruled in favor of Home Box Office Inc., or HBO, in a trademark opposition case blocking an attempt to register the mark "Game of Döner." The Opposition Division rejected the application in its entirety given its “unfair advantage” given the reputation of hit television series, Game of Thrones, which HBO produced....
