Patent industry groups urge Senate to exempt USPTO from Trump workforce orders

( February 5, 2025, 18:29 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The American Intellectual Property Law Association and the Intellectual Property Owners Association sent a letter to US Senate Commerce and Judiciary Committee leaders urging them to exempt the US Patent and Trademark Office from recent Trump administration actions attempting to force workers back to the office, freeze hiring and encourage employees to leave the federal workforce. The groups argued that the return-to-office mandate, hiring freeze and "deferred resignation" programs — each of which are opposed by USPTO worker unions — harm the office's ability to process patents in a timely manner and hurt American innovation.See attached file....
