Companies must preserve records of cybercrime offenses under New Zealand laws

( July 25, 2025, 02:21 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: New Zealand law-enforcement agencies will be able to require companies to preserve records that could provide evidence of offending under new cybercrime laws approved by parliament this week. In a statement, New Zealand Justice Minister Paul Goldsmith said the laws would also enhance the country’s ability to seek assistance from foreign jurisdictions for criminal investigations. The amendments to the Mutual Assistance in Criminal Matters Act will see New Zealand signing up to the Council of Europe Convention on Cybercrime, which signals to “other like-minded countries that we take cybercrime seriously and we are prepared to do our part to eliminate it,” Goldsmith said. The full statement from New Zealand Justice Minister Paul Goldsmith follows: ...
