New Zealand will shut down crypto ATMs as part of AML revamp

( July 10, 2025, 07:55 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Crypto ATMs will be shut down by the New Zealand government, as part of a range of new anti-money laundering measures announced by the government. In a statement, Associate Justice Minister Nicole McKee said the new AML rules would make it “more difficult for criminals to convert cash to high-risk assets, such as cryptocurrencies,” and would set an upper limit of NZ$5,000 ($3,006) on the cash that can be transferred internationally. As part of the changes, the Financial Intelligence Unit, New Zealand’s financial-crime enforcer, will be empowered to order banks and other businesses to provide ongoing relevant information on persons of interest. The full statement from Associate Justice Minister Nicole McKee follows: ...
