Spark IT manager, contractor jailed over New Zealand's largest corruption case

( May 20, 2025, 01:50 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Two IT experts connected to Spark New Zealand have been sentenced to three years in jail for their roles in a bribery and corruption case involving over NZ$4 million ($2.37 million) in kickbacks, at the end of the country’s largest private-sector corruption case. In a statement, New Zealand’s Serious Fraud Office said it had filed charges against the two contractors, both Australian citizens, in April 2023. Sean Bryan pleaded guilty to the charges in September 2024; Mark Lester pleaded guilty in October 2024. Lester had worked with Spark, New Zealand’s largest telecommunications and digital-services provider; Bryan ran a company called Victory IT, which assisted with testing upgrades to an IT platform.
