Russia’s nuclear industry remains the EU’s sanctions exception

While Brussels did pledge trade measures on enriched uranium and restrictions on new supply contracts, those proposals never materialized. Despite efforts by European companies to build alternatives, the bloc's nuclear interdependencies with Russia remain extensive, including through exports.The continued absence of the nuclear sector from the EU's sanctions against Moscow highlights the bloc's multiple dependencies on Russia — from fuel to conversion and enrichment, as well as longstanding industrial ties. The lack of action comes more than a year after the European Commission pledged to end Russian nuclear energy imports....
