EU methane-import penalties could be suspended through 2029, draft says
By Louis de Briant ( May 29, 2026, 12:12 GMT | Insight) -- Penalties for breaches of the EU methane regulation's import requirements could be suspended from 2027 through 2029 under a draft European Commission recommendation, issued in response to the Middle East crisis. The proposal would apply to fossil fuel supply contracts concluded or renewed before Jan. 1, 2028, with an exception remaining in place for large-scale breaches.
