Lawmakers call for earlier allowance releases in EU Emissions Trading System

( April 15, 2026, 16:26 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: A key European Parliament committee has proposed changes to the extension of the EU Emissions Trading System that would accelerate allowance releases during price spikes, extend the €45 cap beyond 2029 and delay the cancelation of unused permits. The lawmakers on the Environment, Climate, and Food Safety committee, known as ENVI, also called for additional measures, including possible exemptions for residential buildings, citing concerns over the scheme’s social and economic impact.Press release follows....
