Seventy-seven German companies facing possible fines for smart meter failings

( March 27, 2026, 10:23 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Seventy-seven German mostly small and medium-sized companies are facing possible fines for failing to start the rollout of smart meters in 20 percent of their eligible installations by the end of 2025, the regulator responsible for electricity and gas has said. The companies targeted in the initial proceedings, which aimed to ensure compliance through fines, would have an opportunity to comment, the Federal Network Agency said in a statement.
