Lawmakers urge EU for ambitious 2040 climate target, end of fossil-fuel subsidies

The text sets out parliament’s key asks for the EU ahead of the COP30 summit. The document, approved on Monday, will be voted by the parliament’s full assembly later in October.The EU should adopt a science-based 2040 target, should close the 1% gap in member states’ current 2030 climate plans, and should design a roadmap with a clear deadline to phase out fossil-fuel subsidies, lawmakers from the European Parliament’s environment committee said in a resolution on Monday evening....
