Spain’s blackout caused by over-voltage cascade, oscillations, generation loss (update*)

Mandatory voltage controls for all technologies, renewable and non-renewable, should be required, Entso-E said. A second “political report,” with policy recommendations, is expected in the first quarter of 2026.The April 28 Iberian blackout was caused by cascading over-voltage events triggered by sudden oscillations and the loss of “reactive power” from disconnecting generation assets, Entso-E said in a report on Friday (see here)....
