EU low-carbon hydrogen rules face resistance from lawmakers, gas industry

The current calculation is too complex and risks hindering hydrogen investment, lawmakers said at a previous debate. Questions also remain about how certain types of hydrogen would qualify, gas lobby group Eurogas said in an interview. A vote is scheduled for next week in the European Parliament’s energy committee, a lawmaker told MLex. If lawmakers were to vote to object to the text, the methodology won’t enter into force.Several lawmakers are opposing the European Commission’s methodology for calculating greenhouse gas emissions from low-carbon hydrogen due to its complexity and inability to attract investments.
