Nuclear research and safety programs to receive EUR10.8 billion from EU budget

( September 3, 2025, 12:37 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Nuclear research programs are set to receive up to 9.8 billion euros (around $11.4 billion) from the EU’s 2028-2034 long-term budget, the European Commission said today in a press release announcing seven sectoral proposals. The funds are intended to improve nuclear safety, upgrade radioactive-waste management and support fusion energy development through the ITER project. An additional 1 billion euros will be allocated to nuclear decommissioning programs under the new Instrument for Nuclear Safety Cooperation and Decommissioning, the EU executive said.Full press release follows:...
