EU should seek faster electrification to unlock energy savings, think tank says

( September 2, 2025, 11:23 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The EU should accelerate the electrification of heating, transport and industry to cut fossil fuel imports, advance climate action and strengthen energy security, Danish think tank Concito said in a study today. Investing around 100 billion euros in renewables and grids could deliver about 160 billion euros in savings from reduced imports. Greater integration of electricity markets and improved system flexibility through large-scale batteries could unlock further savings, Concito said. To achieve this, the EU should more strongly incentivize electrification and open infringement procedures against countries failing to implement the Electricity Market Regulation, the think tank added.Full study attached....
