Keep energy efficiency principle in new climate law, industry urges EU

( August 29, 2025, 08:12 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The EU should keep the Energy Efficiency First principle — known as EE1st — at the center of the revised climate law, industry participants have warned. EE1st requires energy-saving measures to take priority over additional energy supply when these are more cost-effective, to ensure smarter use of resources, lower costs and greater sustainability. The industry warns that removing the principle would undermine climate goals, investment stability and competitiveness. The sector calls on policymakers to preserve coherence, long-term support and explicit recognition of EE1st in meeting the targets for 2040.Letter attached....
