Apple cannot advertise its watches as CO2 neutral, German court rules

( August 27, 2025, 09:33 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Apple must refrain from labeling its watches as CO2-neutral products as this violates Germany’s law against unfair competition, the Frankfurt am Main Regional Court ruled yesterday. Apple justified the carbon-neutral label through a carbon-offset project involving eucalyptus plantations in Paraguay. However, 75 percent of the project’s leased land will expire in 2029 with no guaranteed extension, the court said. This would conflict with the Paris Agreement, which requires carbon sinks such as forests to remove CO2 from the atmosphere in the second half of the century. The decision can be appealed before the Higher Regional Court of Frankfurt am Main.Full press release in German follows:...
