Constellation-Calpine merger critics urge US FERC to reconsider deal's clearance

( August 22, 2025, 22:27 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The Pennsylvania Office of Consumer Advocate and a three-member coalition of policy advocacy organizations — Public Citizen, PennFuture and the Clean Air Council — have filed requests with the US Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, asking for a rehearing of their arguments against power generator Constellation Energy's proposed acquisition of Calpine Corporation. "The Commission does not know that the conglomerated company has the power and incentive to raise prices for the unlawful reason of refusing to look beyond statistics the merger applicants engineered before they ever came to the Commission’s door," the coalition told FERC. "The Order lacks reasoned decision-making, substantial evidence, and statutory fealty, and is predicated on an abuse of discretion and a deprivation of due process."See attached files....
