Countries are failing to turn COP28 renewable pledge into targets, think tank says

( July 31, 2025, 08:37 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Only 22 of the 133 countries that pledged two years ago to triple renewable energy capacity by 2030 have updated their national targets, energy think tank Ember said in a report published today. The pledge was made at the COP28 climate conference in 2023. The revised commitments currently amount to 7.4 terawatts of global renewable capacity, well below the 11 terawatts needed to meet the global pledge, Ember said. Among the 20 largest power systems, nine have yet to revise their targets. Only China and South Africa are expected to do so this year, while Canada, Russia, Turkey and the US have taken no action to align with the COP28 pledge, Ember said.Full statement follows, report attached:...
