Solar was largest power source in EU for first time in June, think tank says

Growing solar installations and prolonged sunny weather helped solar generate 22.1 percent of electricity in the EU. This was followed by nuclear at 21.8 percent and wind at 15.8 percent while coal registered an all-time low in June, Ember said. Nonetheless, the fossil fuel share increased in the first half of 2025 compared to 2024, with gas growing by 19 percent due to low hydropower and wind generation. Fossil fuels combined generated 23.6 percent of EU electricity in June 2025, just above the record low of 22.9 percent in May 2024.Full statement follows:...
