Strengthen EU energy security ahead of framework revision, lawmakers urge

( July 8, 2025, 11:49 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Europe should strengthen its security-of-supply framework between now and 2027 by expanding domestic clean energy production, investing in resilient infrastructure, and banning Russian energy imports, European lawmakers said today, adopting a non-binding resolution. As the EU ramps up renewable energy deployment, capacity mechanisms that are used to compensate the providers of back-up stable energy sources should be streamlined and accelerated, lawmakers added. With 459 votes in favor, 170 against and 30 abstentions, the Parliament’s full assembly urged the European Commission to propose a comprehensive approach to energy security in its upcoming framework revision in 2026.Full press release follows:...
