CBAM deal reached between European Parliament and Council of the EU

( June 18, 2025, 14:27 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Ninety percent of EU importers will be exempted from the EU Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism, according to a new deal reached today by the European Parliament and the Council representing member states. The move applies to small and medium-size importers of iron, steel, aluminum, cement and fertilizers emitting less than 50 metric tons of CO2 per year. Further simplification is expected to ease the authorization process, emissions calculation and verification rules, said the parliament.
