Biogases could replace a quarter of global natural gas demand, says IEA

( May 28, 2025, 10:29 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Biogases are garnering renewed political interest worldwide, according to a new study by the International Energy Agency. Whether used for heating or electricity production, biogases can enhance energy security and boost local economies as dispatchable energy sources generated near consumption sites. Produced from sustainable feedstock, biogases could also help countries lower CO2 emissions, said the IEA, by replacing around 1 trillion cubic meters of natural gas every year — equal to 25 percent of global demand today.
