Carmakers in EU win more time to reach 2025 CO2 emissions targets

( May 27, 2025, 09:43 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Cars and vans manufacturers will enjoy greater flexibility to meet their 2025 CO2 emissions targets after the EU Council – representing member states – approved without changes the amended CO2 regulation today. Carmakers are expected to lower their emissions by 25 percent this year compared to 2021 levels. With this new amendment, the timeline is extended until 2027 and compliance will be assessed based on the average performance of each manufacturer over three years, instead of annually. The updated regulation will enter into force on the 20th day following its publication in the Official Journal.Full press release below:...
