EU sanctions set to include Nord Stream pipelines, Russian oil vessels

By Eleonora Rinaldi ( May 16, 2025, 11:21 GMT | Insight) -- Russian oil and gas companies will see new EU sanctions targeting the gas pipelines Nord Stream 1 and 2, as well as nearly 200 oil vessels from Russia’s shadow fleet, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said at a summit in Albania today. The 17th sanctions package will also narrow the current oil price gap to reduce Russia’s revenues from oil sales and add further pressure on Vladimir Putin to engage in peace talks with Ukraine. The package will be formally adopted by EU foreign ministers on May 20.Russia’s oil and gas sectors are set to brace for new sanctions from the EU, after President Putin refused to meet Ukraine’s President Zelensky for peace talks in Turkey on Thursday....
