Globally-binding tool to fight environmental crimes adopted by Council of Europe

If ratified by at least 10 countries and eight members, the convention will become the first legally-binding international framework to fight environmental crime while supporting international cooperation and guiding states in their national legislations.The fight against environmental crime is gaining international momentum. Adopted yesterday by the Council for Europe, the "Convention on the Protection of the Environment through Criminal Law" lays the “groundwork for stronger legal frameworks and accountability mechanisms to combat environmental crimes,” said the council, an international organization made up of 46 European countries, including all EU member states....
