Talks to link EU-UK emission trading systems should start soon, says industry letter

( April 30, 2025, 12:25 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Negotiations to link the EU and UK emission trading systems should start as soon as possible, according to a letter signed by more than fifty European industrial organizations. Matching the two systems would lower decarbonization costs, enhance market confidence, and accelerate clean energy deployment. This will also improve EU-UK cooperation in the North Sea, potentially saving consumers up to 44 billion euros per year by 2040, while reducing emissions by 24 percent, the letter says.
