Japan's Nojima to buy Hitachi home-appliance unit for $690 mln

( April 21, 2026, 07:09 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Japanese retailer Nojima agreed with Hitachi on Tuesday to acquire a majority stake in Hitachi’s home-appliance business for 110 billion yen ($690 million), as the companies seek to combine Nojima’s consumer-facing strengths with Hitachi’s manufacturing capabilities. Through a series of share transfers, Nojima will hold 80.1 percent of a new company that absorbs Hitachi’s domestic consumer-appliance unit and its overseas appliance operations, while Hitachi Global Life Solutions will retain 19.9 percent. The new entity will also acquire a 60 percent stake in Hitachi’s overseas appliance joint venture with Turkish company Arçelik.
