Early data shows Australia's new merger regime working well, antitrust regulator says

In a statement on Thursday, the Australian Competition & Consumer Commission said data from the first three months of its new merger control regime, which began on Jan. 1, shows it is operating as expected and meeting decision timeline commitments. The statement said between Jan. 1 and March 31, the regulator received 50 merger notifications and 108 waiver applications. It added that the regulator has approved 39 notifications in phase 1 and granted 70 notification waivers. The regulator said that 91 percent of determinations are being made within 20 business days.Statement follows....
