Beijer Ref-Refrigeration Specialties deal may be anticompetitive, New Zealand watchdog says

( March 31, 2026, 03:12 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: An initial investigation into Sweden-based Beijer Ref’s proposed acquisition of 100 percent of Refrigeration Specialties indicate that the deal may be likely to substantially lessen competition in relevant markets, New Zealand’s antitrust regulator has said. In a statement of issues published on Tuesday, the New Zealand Commerce Commission said the main issue relates to the wholesale supply of hydrofluorocarbon refrigerants. The regulator said it is investigating the extent of competition that would be lost in the supply of hydrofluorocarbon refrigerants as a result of the acquisition. In a statement on Tuesday, the regulator said it is seeking views on the deal until April 16. Both parties are wholesalers that specialize in supplying refrigeration and air-conditioning equipment and spare parts.Statement follows. Statement of issues is attached....
