Mohawk Industries-Bremworth deal raises antitrust concerns in New Zealand

( December 23, 2025, 01:17 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Mohawk Industries' proposal to acquire its carpet-manufacturing and distribution peer, Bremworth, continues to raise antitrust concerns for New Zealand competition regulator. In a statement of issues published on Tuesday, the New Zealand Commerce Commission said the regulator is currently not satisfied that the deal would not substantially lessen competition due to unilateral effects. The regulator said the acquisition may enable the merged entity to “profitably increase carpet prices charged to retailers above the level that would prevail” without the acquisition. One of Mohawk’s interconnected body corporates is Godfrey Hirst New Zealand, which is listed as the acquirer in the statement.
