No repurposing of trade tools for economic security, EU’s Redonnet says

Denis Redonnet said on Tuesday that tools built for a freer-trade era must now account for geopolitical pressures without changing their legal foundations. Competition officials cautioned that the FSR should not become a trade-defense weapon.The EU’s trade-defense instruments and newer tools such as the Foreign Subsidies Regulation don’t require a repurposing of their core objectives, but they must be adapted to the bloc’s new economic-security reality and the growing weaponization of trade, a top EU official has said....
