Bega Cheese, FrieslandCampina pull out of Fonterra deal, ending Australian review

( August 22, 2025, 08:16 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The acquisition of certain businesses within New Zealand’s Fonterra Co-operative Group by Australia’s Bega Cheese and the Netherlands’ FrieslandCampina won’t proceed, with Australia’s competition watchdog announcing today that it had discontinued its public review. The Australian Competition & Consumer Commission announced the development in a brief statement on its website. Had the joint bid proceeded, it would have seen FrieslandCampina acquire the segments of Fonterra’s global businesses that are selling outside of Oceania, with Bega acquiring the Oceania businesses that are being sold.
