Bega, FrieslandCampina move on Fonterra assets to be reviewed by Australian watchdog

( August 1, 2025, 06:44 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The acquisition of certain businesses within New Zealand’s Fonterra Co-operative Group by Australia’s Bega Cheese and the Netherlands’ FrieslandCampina is the subject of an informal review by the Australian mergers watchdog. In a market inquiries letter released today, the Australian Competition & Consumer Commission said that if the joint bid were successful, it would see FrieslandCampina acquire the segments of Fonterra’s global businesses that are selling outside of Oceania, with Bega acquiring the Oceania businesses that are being sold. Bega is a daily and food-products company listed on the Australian Securities Exchange; Fonterra is New Zealand-based daily cooperative which acquires raw mil from around 650 Australian farmers.
