Mahindra's acquisition of 59 percent stake in SML Isuzu gets India nod

By Freny Patel ( June 18, 2025, 00:07 GMT | Insight) -- Mahindra & Mahindra has received unconditional approval from the Competition Commission of India to acquire a 58.96 percent controlling stake in SML Isuzu. Both companies manufacture and sell commercial vehicles. The acquisition involves purchasing shareholding from Japanese automobile manufacturers Sumitomo Corporation (43.96 percent) and Isuzu Motors (15 percent). The CCI cleared the merger late Tuesday evening, adding that a detailed order will follow.India's leading commercial-vehicle manufacturer, Mahindra & Mahindra, or M&M, has received unconditional approval from the Indian antitrust watchdog to acquire a controlling stake in SML Isuzu held by two Japanese automobile manufacturers, Sumitomo Corporation and Isuzu Motors....
