Bunge, Viterra deal wins conditional approval from China

( June 16, 2025, 12:15 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: China’s top merger-control regulator announced today that it has conditionally approved the proposed acquisition of Glencore-backed Viterra by global agricultural business giant Bunge. The State Administration for Market Regulation concluded that the transaction may restrict competition in Chinese markets for imported soybeans, barley, and rapeseed. To ease the competition concern, the regulator cleared the transaction on June 12 between two of the world’s major agricultural trading houses, imposing five conditions — including continuing contractual obligations, stabilizing prices, and securing supply — to ensure a stable supply of soybeans and other agricultural products at reasonable prices, and protecting the interests of downstream customers and consumers.
